Some data needs to be kept accessible over a longer period of time due to legal compliance or internal guidelines. This poses particular challenges. The media containing the stored data have to stay readable during the complete archiving lifecycle, and the access systems and their respective system states have to be preserved in order to access the data during the entire archiving lifecycle as well. Simply moving the data “into the cloud” can – if at all – be part of the solution at best.
